Haircuts for a Yorkie

The Yorkshire Terrier ̵1;or Yorkie for short̵2;is a small breed of dog that has a soft, single coat. The fine hair of the Yorkie leads many allergy sufferers to claim that Yorkies are practically hypoallergenic. Because the coat of a Yorkie is thin and fine, they require regular grooming to keep the fur from getting matted. Yorkies are known for their stylish haircuts and many of them are seen wearing bows to keep their bangs out of their eyes.
  1. Styles

    • When it comes to various styles, most Yorkies are trimmed to look the same. Yorkies' fur is kept to a medium length of two to three inches long̵2;people do not often shave these dogs as they have a very lightweight coat. The Yorkies most significant style trait is their long bangs which are kept up in a bow. When cutting your dog̵7;s fur, make sure to keep the bangs long so you can secure them with a traditional bow.

    Grooming Equipment

    • When cutting your Yorkie̵7;s fur you will need to own a few basic pieces of grooming equipment. You will need shampoo and conditioner to help detangle the fur before cutting it. You might also need a grooming collar or harness to keep the dog still as you trim his fur. You will also need grooming scissors to hand trim the dog̵7;s hair, a pair of grooming clippers and a slicker brush to brush out the coat as you groom.

    Bathing

    • Before you cut your Yorkie̵7;s fur you should give your dog a bath. Bathing removes excess hair and dirt and also helps loosen any tangles or mats in the dog̵7;s fur. Because of their fine hair, Yorkies should be bathed once every two weeks. This will help prevent mats which are difficult to cut out. When bathing your dog don̵7;t skip out on the conditioner. Conditioner helps coat the hair follicles and reduces hair tangles, just as it does for humans.

    Grooming Process

    • Once you̵7;ve bathed your Yorkie it̵7;s time to cut his hair. Have your Yorkie stand on a towel and use the slicker brush to brush out his fur, removing any tangles. Use a(clipper blade to trim the ears, a blade to trim the arm pits, backs of the dog's legs, anal area and feet. Finally, use a #7 blade to trim the hair on the dog̵7;s body. When clipping excess fur from the dog̵7;s anal area, ears or other sensitive regions, many people choose to use blunt grooming scissors. Secure the Yorkie̵7;s bangs in a bow to finish the grooming process.
