1. Take a piece of string and wrap it around the dog's neck, just below the head.
2. Mark the spot where the string overlaps.
3. Measure the length of the string, from the mark to the end.
4. Add 2 inches (5 cm) to the measurement to allow for adjustability.
Step 2: Cut the collar to the desired length.
1. Cut a piece of leather or nylon webbing to the length measured in Step 1.
2. If you are using leather, burn or heat-seal the cut ends to prevent fraying.
Step 3: Punch holes for the buckle and prong.
1. If necessary, punch holes in the collar's buckle to allow the prong to fit through.
2. The buckle should be positioned just under the dog's chin.
3. Punch a hole in the collar's prong to match up with the buckle's holes.
Step 4: Attach the buckle and prong.
1. Insert the prong through the hole in the buckle.
2. Fold the collar's tail back over the prong and through the hole in the other end of the buckle.
3. Tighten the buckle to fit the collar snugly around the dog's neck.
Step 5: Check for fit.
1. Ensure the collar is snug enough to keep the dog from slipping out of it, but loose enough to avoid causing discomfort.
2. You should be able to fit two fingers between the dog's neck and the collar.
Step 6: Training your dog to wear a choker collar.
1. Place the collar on the dog's neck
2. For the initial introduction keep it loos enough
3. Gradually tighten it to the snug fit.
4. Reward the dog with treats when they remain calm with the collar on.
Always supervise your dog when they are wearing a choker collar.
Choker collars can be used for training, but they should never be used as a punishment. If you are unsure how to use a choker collar safely, consult with your dog trainer.
