How it spreads:
* Fecal-oral route: The virus is shed in the dog's feces and can be spread through direct contact with contaminated feces, or indirectly through contaminated surfaces like toys, food bowls, or bedding.
* Contact with infected dogs: Dogs can also spread the virus through direct contact with infected dogs, such as sniffing or licking each other.
Symptoms of a stomach virus in dogs:
* Vomiting
* Diarrhea
* Loss of appetite
* Lethargy
* Abdominal pain
How to prevent the spread:
* Isolate the sick dog: Keep the sick dog away from other dogs to prevent the spread of the virus.
* Thorough cleaning: Clean and disinfect all surfaces the dog has come into contact with, including food and water bowls, toys, bedding, and floors.
* Good hygiene: Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the sick dog or its belongings.
* Vaccinations: Some viral infections, like parvovirus, have vaccinations available.
If your dog has a stomach virus:
* Consult your veterinarian: It's important to consult your veterinarian to determine the cause of the illness and receive appropriate treatment.
* Provide supportive care: Offer your dog plenty of fresh water and bland food, such as boiled chicken and rice, to help them rehydrate and recover.
* Monitor for worsening symptoms: If your dog's symptoms worsen or if they show signs of dehydration (such as sunken eyes or lethargy), take them to the vet immediately.
