How to Fix a Dog's Chapped Lips

Similar to humans, dogs can get chapped lips. Because the dog's face is often the first thing that's noticed when petting a dog, its owners can quickly discover the problem. A dog with dry, chapped lips may frequently lick its lips and rub or paw its face. The condition, which can be a sign of underlying medical or dental conditions, can be triggered by dehydration or contact with brush and weeds. Use topical applications to help heal your dog's lips.

Instructions

Clean your dog's lips. Mix 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide with 5 tablespoons of water. Wash your dog's lips with the mixture on a daily basis.

    • 2

Remove a leaf from an aloe vera plant. Slice the leave vertically with a knife. Squeeze the leave so the clear, gel-like substance comes out. Apply the aloe to your dog's lips to promote healing.

    • 3

Wet a cotton ball with olive oil and dab it onto your dog's lips. The oil helps protect your dog's lips and seals moisture into them. Repeat this process daily until the lips heal.
