Time
-
Begin with a casual walk for 30 minutes. If your dog seems tired after repeating daily for one week, cut the time back to 20 minutes. A dog's endurance, like a human's, should build over time. Work your way up to an hour.
Length
-
Based on the time that you have determined best suits your dog, work out a couple of different paths around your neighborhood or local park. This way you do not have to time each walk.
Temperature
-
Depending on where you live, the temperature will affect the length of a walk with your westie. If it is particularly hot outside, shorten your walk and bring water. If is cold, purchase a coat for your dog and use it as you would use your coat.
Consistency
-
Consistency is good for your dog and for you. Get into the habit of walking your dog at the same time every day. Break up the hour-long walk into two 30-minute walks if works best for you. If time or weather doesn't allow for an outside walk, play fetch with a tennis ball.

How Much to Walk a Westie?
Westies, or Western Highland terriers, are native to Scotland. Known for their beautiful white coat and playful exuberance, these playful pups need exercise. A westie typically requires 60 to 80 minutes of exercise a day. That exercise can come from walking or from playing with a ball or with other dogs. Note that the amount of exercise is different from dog to dog, not just breed to breed. Walking your dog is good for you and great for your dog!
