How to Repel Fleas from Animals With Garlic Water

Fleas are pests that infest both dogs and cats. Because fleas are so common, pet owners may not be aware of how dangerous they can be. According to Doctors Foster and Smith, fleas can cause tapeworms, anemia and sometimes severe allergic reactions. The best course of action is to repel the fleas so that your pet never becomes infested with them in the first place. Fortunately, garlic water can easily be used as an inexpensive flea repellent.

Instructions

    • 1

Weigh your cat or dog if you are unsure of its current weight.

    • 2

Grate one clove of garlic for every 40 pounds that your animal weighs. For example, if your dog is 80 pounds, you would use two cloves of garlic. If your cat only weighs 10 pounds, you would grate 1/4 of a clove of garlic.

    • 3

Mix the tiny garlic pieces with 2 tsp. water.

    • 4

Transfer the mixture to a medicine dropper. Medicine droppers that do not clog up when the garlic bits are placed into them are available; they look like spoons. Many pharmacists give these droppers away for free.

    • 5

Open your pet's mouth and pour the garlic water in.

    • 6

Repeat once every three days to keep fleas away.
