Establish Routine Early
The younger the dog, the easier it is to train. Crate training a peekapoo from an early age helps it become comfortable in its surroundings. The puppy peekapoo may be stubborn, so vigilance is necessary in the early stages of housebreaking the dog. Luckily, peekapoos are smart dogs. They train fairly easily and can learn many commands and phrases. The key is persistence and consistence in your training routine.
Peekapoos require daily exercise. Pent-up energy can result in damaged couches, cushions and other generally undesirable results and behavior. Fortunately, the small peekapoo tires quicker than larger breeds. Take your peekapoo for a daily walk, trip to the dog park or romp in the yard to alleviate its anxiety. The two of you will be happier and healthier for it.
Peekapoos shed a modest amount of hair and may require daily grooming. Simply brush your peekapoo's hair daily or every other day, depending on the length of your peekapoo's hair. Some peekapoo owners bring their dog to the groomer to alleviate some of this brushing. However, even the most neatly trimmed peekapoo requires twice-a-week brushing.
Peekapoos are inside dogs that require socialization to bring out their best nature. Expose your peekapoo to a wide variety of dogs, people and pets to best acclimate it. Otherwise, your peekapoo may yip at every passing stranger or dog. Mainly, a peekapoo requires attention and affection. Its favorite place is likely to be your lap.
How to Take Care of a Peekapoo
A peekapoo is a mix between the dog breeds Pekingese and poodle. The breed was introduced in the 1950s and has gained considerable popularity. The peekapoo grows up to 11 inches and weighs anywhere between 4 and 20 lbs. Its protective and loving nature, and miniature stature, makes the peekapoo an ideal family dog.
