Instructions
View the stomach of the basset hound in a well-lit area. The best way to accomplish this is to lay the dog on its back to reveal its stomach. If your dog will not stay still, wait until he is asleep and flip the dog over. You can also view the dog's stomach by looking under the dog while its standing on its four legs.
Locate the scrotum that is positioned between the back legs and visible on the stomach in male basset hounds. In puppies, you will also see the testicles that are enclosed in the scrotum after age of 2 to 3 weeks.
Look for the vulva that is located in the middle portion of the back legs in female basset hounds. Additionally, look for nipples, which are placed in two rows running up the sides of the abdomen (from the vulva area to the chest).
