How to Put Vinegar in Ears for Worms

Canines are susceptible to an array of parasitic worms including roundworm, tapeworm, hookworm, whipworm and heartworm. Worms attach to connective tissue or to organs within the dog and cause symptoms such as overeating, vomiting, diarrhea, low energy and itchy skin and ears. Cleaning a dog's ears out with a mixture of white vinegar and water helps keep the ear healthy, removing dirt and wax so the dog is less prone to parasites and bacteria. This is not a remedy for worms. A dog with worms should be treated by a veterinarian and given a dewormer or a series of shots, depending on the type of worm.

Instructions

  1. Cleaning Canine Ears

    • 1

Mix 1 tsp. of white distilled vinegar and two tsp. of water in a bowl. Fill a sterile ear syringe or dropper with the mixture.

    • 2

Put the dog in the laying down position on the side opposite the ear you are cleaning. Ask another person to help hold the dog still if the dog is squirming.

    • 3

Hold the dog's ear flap up with one hand to gain access to the interior of the ear. The opening of the ear should be facing upward.

    • 4

Aim the ear dropper at the opening in the dog's ear. Squeeze the syringe or dropper twice to place two drops of the vinegar and water mixture into the ear.

    • 5

Rub the base of the dog's ear to make the vinegar drops flow downward into the ear canal for cleansing.

    • 6

Remove wax and discharge from the ear with a cotton ball.
