Anti-Inflammatory
-
Animax cream applied to an inflamed area of skin can act as an antihistamine so that pain subsides and healing can occur. This cream is primarily used to treat fungal or bacterial infections, while simultaneously targeting the inflammation that accompanies these problems and speeding their resolution.
Antifungal
-
If your veterinarian has diagnosed your dog with a topical fungal infection, she may also prescribe Animax to target both inflammation and fungus. Animax helps lesions and rawness associated with fungal damage to heal. The cream targets the fungus Candida Albicans, which frequently affects dogs' skin, and also combats common yeast overgrowth on the pelt.
Antibacterial
-
Multiple antibacterial components allow this cream to combat most topical bacterial infections dogs may experience. The Thiostrepton ingredient in Animax targets many strains of bacteria that affect the skin and coat. Animax is often used to defeat bacteria that has become resistant to many other kinds of systemic and topical antibiotics. Killing the bacteria causing skin lesion allows cuts and irritated patches to heal.
Anti-Parasitic
-
Animax can treat dermatitis caused by a parasite invasion. It does not kill the parasite but will relieve symptoms so that other medications can go to work and healing can occur. Animax cream can also be used to treat parasitic ear mites. Make sure the ear canal is clean. Use a cotton swab to apply a thin film to the outer ear canal. Additional treatment may be necessary depending on the mites affecting your dog, so contact your veterinarian for more complete information on how to treat ear mites with Animax.
How to Use
-
When using Animax topically to treat skin problems, clean affected areas and apply a thin layer of the cream. For skin disorders presenting mild symptoms, apply once a day, or for very mild cases, once a week. When treating severe symptoms, apply three times daily. Contact your veterinarian for more detailed instructions based on your dog's specific dermatological disorder. Wear gloves while you apply the cream to your pet, or any time you touch your dog's irritated or damaged skin.
Warnings
-
Consult your veterinarian before applying Animax to a pregnant animal. Animax will not treat systemic infections. Do not get Animax in or near your pet's eyes. . Never apply Animax to an open wound; instead, wait until the skin has begun to heal. Moniter your pet's overall health while treating her with Animax. Changes such as weight gain may indicate that your pet is licking off the cream in quantities that may be harmful. If licking continues, your dog may have to wear a cone to curtail licking. If symptoms become worse or the area becomes irritated, stop using Animax cream and contact your veterinarian.
