Instructions
Cut back on baths. A dog's skin provides oils that are essential for keeping it moisturized. Washing removes these oils; frequent washing can keep the skin from replenishing its natural oils at all. Bathe your puppy once a week at most.
Brush your puppy's fur regularly. This helps to distribute its natural oils across its skin.
Add fatty acids to your puppy's diet in the form of dog food that contains omega 3, eggs and flaxseed oil. Mix just a little bit into your puppy's food.
Use an oatmeal shampoo when washing your puppy. This helps to soothe its skin. A baby shampoo is also gentle enough to use.
Rub a moisturizing lotion into your puppy's skin. You can use the same kind of lotion that you use on your skin. Try to avoid heavily scented products, which can irritate the nose or skin.
Take your puppy to the vet. If regular maintenance and a few tricks don't clear up your puppy's dry skin, it could be a symptom of a bigger problem. Parasites, allergies and skin conditions can also lead to dry skin.
