How to Make Lemon Tea to Get Rid of Fleas

If you find fleas on your pet, they're probably in your home and yard as well. Topical medications for pets are widely available, but it's easy and inexpensive to make a home remedy. One such remedy is lemon tea, which isn't really a tea at all; it's made simply of lemons and hot water. Homeremediesfordogs.org says it works because fleas don't like the taste of an enzyme in the lemon peel. This remedy will also leave your dog with a fresh lemon scent.

Instructions

Fill a pot with two pints of water and bring to a boil. Keep boiling for about five minutes.

    • 2

Cut four lemons into 1/4-inch pieces while waiting for the water to boil. Leave the peel on, since it's the part containing the flea-deterring enzyme.

    • 3

Add the lemon pieces to the boiling water. Simmer for 20 minutes, then turn the burner off and let the water cool. Strain the water to remove the lemon pulp.

Pour the lemon mixture into a spray bottle. Spray your dog's coat thoroughly, rubbing your dog's skin and fur to work in the mixture.
