How to Kill Ticks Indoors

If you see a tick inside your house, it will likely be attached to your pet or family member, feeding off their blood. Although seeing a tick on you or your pet may be alarming, you should remove it immediately without panicking. While most common ticks are harmless, the deer tick can carry infectious agents such as Lyme disease. Using tweezers is the best way to remove a tick. Do not put petroleum jelly on the tick or burn the tick, as these are not the best or safest ways to detach it.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the tweezers to grab the tick by the head or the part that has entered the skin. Do not grasp the body as you could dislodge the head, making it more difficult to remove.

    • 2

Pull the tick straight back when you have a good grip on it. Do not jerk or twist the tick as the head may come off. Do not squeeze the body of the tick, either.

    • 3

Place the tick in a glass or jar full of rubbing alcohol once you remove it. It will die in the alcohol.

    • 4

Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the tick. Clean the wound area with disinfectant and put a small amount of triple antibiotic cream on it.
