How to Use Baby Wipes to Clean Puppy Ears

Puppy ears are especially susceptible to infection, as they are usually floppy and trap moisture more efficiently than the ears of an adult dog. You can keep your puppy healthy and happy by cleaning his ears at least once a week. Cleaning the ears helps remove existing bacteria and the moisture that allows more to grow. Though dog-specific wipes are available, baby wipes are a perfectly acceptable substitute in a pinch.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold your puppy's ear open by gently pulling the ear away from the head.

    • 2

Wipe the interior of the ear with a clean baby wipe. Do not go any deeper into the ear canal than about half an inch.

    • 3

Examine the inside of the ear for dirt, debris and mites. Any discharge, redness or hard-to-clean gunk may be a sign of infection.

    • 4

Flop your puppy's ears back and forth to help them dry. Getting the ears dry is one of the most important parts of keeping them clean.
