Solid Gold Steamed Bone Meal Ingredients

Solid Gold makes a steamed bone meal supplement to add to dog food. Crushed cow bones comprise the dry mix; it provides a balance of calcium and phosphorous to help strengthen bones in adult dogs and cats, puppies under 12 months and pregnant or nursing dogs. Supplement amounts depend on the weight of the animal. Instructions are provided on the nutrition label.
  1. Calcium and Phosphorus

    • Solid Gold steamed bone meal contains USDA-approved bovine bone that provides 22 to 26 percent calcium, a minimum 11 percent phosphorus and 12 percent each of protein and fat. The bone meal is available in 2-lb. canisters.

    Mineral Balance

    • The right amount of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus is key to bone health, but so is the correct balance of minerals. The correct ratio of calcium to phosphorus ranges 1.1 to 1.4 part calcium to 1 part phosphorus. Solid Gold bone meal delivers 1,368 mg of calcium per tsp. to 684 mg phosphorus per tsp. --- a proper balance of these minerals.

    Safety

    • Bone meal powder is sterilized and USDA-certified free of heavy metals, including lead, mercury, arsenic and aluminum. Bone meal is made from USDA-approved animals --- human grade; this means that the animals used are safe for human consumption.

    Uses

    • German shepherd breeders add bone meal to their dog's diet to build cartilage in the ears.

Puppies that don't receive adequate calcium are prone to fractures. Senior canines benefit from bone meal to help sustain calcium stores, since they often decrease with age. Calcium-deficient canines often experience dental problems and bone loss. Breeders of large dogs, such as German shepherds, add bone meal to the diet to assist cartilage development which helps shepherds' ears stand up.
