Instructions

    • 1

Weigh your dog. Your pet's weight will determine how much food he or she needs.

    • 2

Locate the feeding chart on the bag of dry dog food. The chart will guide you in determining how much to feed your dog each day. If you no longer have the bag, use the link in the "Reference" section below to view a feeding chart online.

    • 3

Match the weight of your dog to the weight range listed on the feeding chart. For example, a dog that weighs 45 pounds falls into the weight range of 36 to 50 pounds. It's suggested that a dog in that weight range eat 2-1/3 to 3 cups of the food per day.

    • 4

Feel the outline of your dog. Remember that the amount of dog food listed on the feeding chart is a suggested amount. If your dog appears to be underweight, increase the food amount; if your dog appears to be overweight, decrease his or her food intake.
