How to Kill Fleas on Female Dogs With Puppies

Many flea control products can be harmful to pregnant or nursing dogs -- and their puppies -- so it's important to consider what effects a flea-control product might have before you use it on the mother. Certain products are approved for pregnant and nursing dogs. One is called Capstar, also known by its generic name nitenpyram. Others are Frontline and Revolution.

Instructions

  1. Capstar

    • 1

Wrap the tablet in a treat the dog likes, such as soft cheese or hamburger.

    • 2

      Feed the dog the treat.

    • 3

Wash the puppies in a shallow bowl with warm water and a mild soap to kill any fleas on the puppies.

    Frontline

    • 4

Remove the Frontline packet and cut or lift off the plastic tab to expose the foil.

    • 5

Hold the packet with the narrow end pointing up. Bend back the tip until it snaps open.

    • 6

Part the hair between the dog's shoulder blades and squeeze the contents of the applicator directly onto the skin.

    Revolution

    • 7

Hold the tube upright and press down on the tip until you hear a click.

    • 8

Remove the cap and check to make sure the tube has been punctured.

    • 9

Part the hair at the base of the dog's neck and squeeze the contents of the tube directly onto the skin. Squeeze the tube several times to ensure it is empty.

    • 10

Draw the tip of the tube away from the liquid and lift up before releasing pressure on the tube.
