Buy the appropriate type of Advantage for your pet. It is made specifically for different animal types and differing weights. This is important because if you buy a type meant for a much bigger or heavier animal it might be too strong or possibly poisonous for your pet.
Open the tube of Advantage by pressing the opposite side of the cap against the opening and twisting. Keep the tube in an upright position and be careful not to squeeze the bottle while opening.
Keep your pet standing to make the process easier. Spread his fur until it is perfectly parted and you can see skin. Start in an area between his shoulder blades.
Place the tip of the tube to the skin and lightly squeeze. Do not pour too much on one spot, as that will cause the solution to spill over the side of your pet. Apply the entire tube, spread out on three to four spots, from the base of the shoulders to the tail.
Wait two weeks and then repeat this process. Wait another two weeks and repeat the process one more time. This will keep the solution strong to treat the initial lice. Once the lice have been eliminated, return to the regular application schedule to protect against future outbreaks of lice or fleas, which is once every four weeks.
