Trim the dog's hair in the area of the hot spot, using a small pair of scissors or a beard trimmer. This allows you to view the problem and helps prevent further infection.

Clean the area with soap and water. Use a gentle body wash or hand soap.

Place a black tea bag in a glass of warm water. Once the tea has soaked up some moisture, remove it from the glass.

Press the warm tea bag on the hot spot, and hold it for a few minutes. Black tea helps the hot spot heal by drying it out.

Monitor your dog for signs of chewing or licking. Use a tea compress two or three times a day until the the hot spot clears up.
