Instructions
Visit your veterinarian as soon as you suspect your dog has mange. Because of the varying types of mange, it is important to know what mange you are treating before doing so.
Choose the injection form of Ivermectin, per the prescription of your veterinarian. Bring your dog in once a week or once every other week until the mange is cleared up. Usually two to four doses are required as a treatment regimen.
Administer the Ivermectin in pill form to your dog if you prefer it over the injection. Because of its horrible taste, the pill would need to be hidden in a piece of food in order to administer it to your dog. The dosage would be daily for up to five weeks to treat the mange.
Follow up with your veterinarian to be sure the Ivermectin is working properly and safely, as prescribed.
How to Use Ivermectin to Kill Mange in Dogs
Mange is caused by small microscopic mites that invade a dog's body. It also can be referred to as canine scabies. The mites attack in large numbers and cause severe itching and eventual hair loss. They also reproduce in mass numbers on the dog's body, feeding on the nutrients of their hosts. There are different types of mange, such as sarcoptic, dermodectic and cheyletiella mange. Ivermectin comes in varying forms for the treatment of parasitic conditions in dogs, including mange.
