Instructions
Determine the length by measuring the distance from the your dog's hind legs to his waist. Make sure that your dog is relaxed while you are doing this to ensure you get an accurate measurement. Add an extra 5 inches to your measurement to determine the proper length for your dog's diaper wrap. To be sure your measurement is correct, fix sewing pins to your fabric at the location of the top and bottom of the diaper wrap. Place the fabric around your dog to simulate him wearing the diaper wrap. If the measurement appears to need adjusting, make the appropriate corrections.
Figure out the width of your diaper wrap by measuring your dog from the base of the ribcage, underneath the belly and to the hip bone. Add an additional 4 inches to the width to get the proper measurement for your diaper wrap. Remember that proper fit is a critical component of a dog diaper wrap. The wrap needs to be secure to ensure that it will not leak.
Plot your pattern for length and width onto your fabric with sewing pins. Cut two patterns out of your fabric.
At the top of the diaper wrap, begin sewing down the length of each side. Sew across the top of the diaper wrap. Leave the bottom open, as it will be across your dog's belly and allow for you to insert a disposable dog pad between the two layers of fabric for extra protection against leaking.
Attach the Velcro pieces at the top and bottom corners of the diaper wrap to ensure the wrap will stay on your pet. On the bottom, or end, that goes across the belly of your dog, fix Velcro on the inside of each piece of fabric so you can seal the diaper wrap once a disposable pad is inserted into the wrap.
