Visit your vet to determine the ideal weight for your dog. You don't want your pet to become overweight. It is possible that your dog is already at its deal weight; some dogs just appear leaner than others due to their breed.
Feed your dog high-protein dog. The high-protein varieties usually contain more calories.
Feed your dog a larger serving of food. Dogs that expend more energy may require a larger serving than the average recommendation.
Feed your dog at least twice a day. For extremely active dogs, you may want to feed them up to three times a day---If your vet agrees.
Give your dog fattening treats, such as peanut butter or cheese. Be careful not to feed these foods in excess. Add weight-gain supplements to your dog's food or along with the treats.
Feed wet puppy food along with your dog's normal food. Wet puppy food tends to have higher calories than dry dog food.
How to Put More Weight on an Active Dog
If you have active, energetic dogs, they may be so incredibly lean that you are able to see their ribs. Because of their activity and the calories they burn, they may appear too thin. If this is a concern, there are a number of things you can do to add a little meat to your dog's bones.
