How to Kill Fleas on a Dog While Feeding Puppies

Special care must be taken when you remove fleas from a mother dog who is still nursing her puppies. Just as human mothers cannot take many medications when they are nursing their babies, chemical flea killers can harm small puppies. While it might be more difficult or take longer to naturally remove fleas on a nursing dog, it is important to do so because not only can the fleas harm the mother, they will also likely move from mother to puppy.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your dog in a tub and wet her thoroughly.

    • 2

Rub natural dish detergent into her fur and create plenty of lather all over her body, being careful around her eyes. You must use dish detergent that does not have harsh chemicals, but is still strong enough to kill fleas.

    • 3

Rinse your dog, washing away all of the lather and the dead fleas.

    • 4

Take a fine toothed flea comb and begin combing through your dog's fur. Work in small sections and dip any live fleas you find in the soapy water so that they die.
