How to Exercise a Dog Inside the House

It is important to a dog's health that it receive plenty of play and exercise. Though dogs love to play outdoors, it can often prove impractical for the owner to consistently give a dog plenty of outdoor time. As an alternative to playing with a dog outdoors, several indoor activities can provide your dog with stimulation and exercise. Making sure your dog gets enough exercise will help keep it healthy and happy.

      Hide yourself inside a room that your dog is currently not in, then call out its name. Let your dog search for you and call out his name again if it cannot locate you. Playing hide and seek in this manner provides physical and mental stimulation for your dog.

      Leash your dog and take it for a walk around the house. Make multiple laps to ensure your dog gets plenty of physical stimulation.

      Clear an area in your household, take your dog's favorite toy or ball and throw it into the area, letting your dog see where it lands. Let your dog fetch the toy and bring it back to you, then repeat.

      Leash your dog and run it up and down any stairs in your house.
