How to Get Rid of Fleas on Your Yorkie

Fleas are a common problem for pet owners. Your Yorkie's long fur can pick them up easily, and once they are in your home, they will start to multiply. Removing them is doable, but you will have to ensure that they are gone from not only your dog, but your entire home, or else they will continue to reproduce and bother your pet.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a flea shampoo. Give your Yorkie a bath using the special shampoo. Repeat the bath for a couple weeks to make sure any stubborn or newcomer fleas are removed.

    • 2

Spray your home with a flea removal product. You can find these at pet stores or other stores that sell pet-related supplies. Look for one that kills not only adult fleas, but eggs and larvae too. Read the instructions carefully, and don't spray it on your dog, because such sprays are not meant for use on humans or pets. Spray once every several days for at least three weeks.

Try a bug bomb if the infestation is really bad. You can purchase these at pet stores, too. The downside to this approach is that you will need to leave your house for a couple days after setting it off.

Continue to check your Yorkie daily for signs of more fleas. When you return from walks outdoors, set the dog on a white surface---white surfaces attract fleas and make them easier to spot---and comb through her fur with a flea comb. If you find fleas, restart the flea bath process.
