How to Stop Mange

Dogs, especially those who spend a lot of time outdoors, are susceptible to contracting mange. Dogs contract mange when small mites attach to their skin. Mange causes the dog's skin to become irritated and will eventually lead to hair loss if not treated promptly and properly. A highly effective method used to cure dogs of mange involves the use of borax. Borax is a white powder mineral compound that helps to kill the mites quickly and effectively.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix 2 lbs. of Borax with 500cc of hydrogen peroxide. Make sure that the borax completely mixes with the hydrogen peroxide before applying it to your dog.

    • 2

Coat the dog's skin with the mixture. Focus especially on areas where the skin is most irritated or where patches of hair have begun to fall out. If you run out of mixture before you have completed covering your dog's skin with the mixture, repeat the first step and continue coating. Do not wash the mixture off of the dog.

    • 3

Give your dog a bath after the mixture has been on his skin for three days. Following the bath, comb the dog's hair thoroughly and re-coat your dog's skin with the mixture.

Continue to wash your dog every three days, comb thoroughly and re-apply the mixture for no more than 30 days total. Stop repeating these steps when the dog's skin is no longer irritated, or when you see hair begin to regrow in bald spots.
