Instructions
Determine if your pet is infected with gastrointestinal parasites. Take your pet or a stool sample from your pet to your veterinarian for them to test. The veterinarian will inform you if you need to treat your pet with Drontal.
Determine the dose needed to treat your pet. (Your veterinarian will normally only give you enough to treat your pet one time, but it never hurts to check the dosing chart.) Consult the dosing chart for Drontal either on the side of the bottle, or look it up on the Bayer website. Typical dosing is 2.5 mg per pound of body weight, but this can vary by species and age of the pet, as well as severity of the parasite infection.
Place the correct dose inside a piece of food or in some wet pet food. Give the food to your pet and make sure they eat and swallow the pills. (You may have to simply pill your cat with a pill gun since they are more likely than dogs to reject the food offering.) Cut the pill in half or quarters with a pill cutter if you need to.
Observe your pet's stool for any signs of worms. Take another stool sample to vet in one to two weeks so they can determine if your pet still has worms and needs another dose of Drontal.
