Flaky and Scaly Bumps on the Inside of a Dog's Legs

Skin disorders in dogs can have a variety of causes, from allergic reactions to parasitic infestations or fungal infections. It is important to have your dog examined by a licensed veterinarian if you notice any skin irritation.

  1. Fungal Infections

    • Ringworm is a common fungal infection that causes hair loss and red, scaly skin. It can appear on the legs as well as other parts of the body. Treatment is usually a topical cream.

    Scabies and Mange

    • Scabies or sarcoptic mange will cause hair loss and incessant itching. It will cause crusty skin. Scabies is highly contagious.

    Staph Infections

    • Staph infections cause redness and itching. They may also cause discolored spots. The infection is caused by a buildup of staphylococcus aureus bacteria, which can be found in humans as well as dogs. Treatment for staph includes oral antibiotics and antimicrobial shampoos.

    Flies and Insects

    • Flies and other insects can bite your dog's legs while it plays in tall grass. These bites can cause red bumps and itchy skin.
