Peace lilies are also called the Mauna Loa peace lily. In scientific communities, they are known as Spathiphyllum, and belong to the Araceae family.

Dogs that eat peace lilies experience the severe, discomforting side effects of "intense burning and irritation of mouth, tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty swallowing," according to the ASPCA.

The ASPCA's Animal Poison Control Center's first words of advice are "don't panic" if you suspect your dog has eaten a peace lily. Gather the dog, the remnants of the lily plant and rush both to your veterinarian for immediate medical attention.
