Fine Tooth Comb and Petroleum Jelly
-
Petroleum jelly placed on the tips of a fine tooth comb will allow you to capture any fleas that may be in your dog's fur. Once captured place them in a bowl of rubbing alcohol, as this will kill them.
Brewer's Yeast
-
Brewer's yeast added to the dog's food or added to water in a spray bottle is a natural repellent for fleas. Add a teaspoon of the yeast to food for smaller dogs and a tablespoon for dogs over 50 pounds. Add a tablespoon to water in a spray bottle and spray over the dog's coat to deter any fleas.
Neem
-
Neem, an Indian herb, can be found in both oil and lotion form. When applied to a dog's skin, it becomes a natural flea repellent. Dogs that are more sensitive to it will need the lotion as the oil is more potent.
Citrus Oil
-
Drench your dog's coat with citrus oil diluted in water to help kill fleas. Additional applications via spray bottle will stop them from returning. You will need to reapply every three days as needed.
Bubble Bath
-
Giving your dog a bubble bath will help kill any fleas on its coat. If the bath has thick bubbles, they will drown the fleas and wash out any eggs that were laid.

Home Remedies for Removal of Fleas From Dogs
Every dog owner must deal with fleas. While using a store-bought flea repellent store or from your veterinarian works well, home remedies can be just as effective at removing the unwanted pests from your dog. Check your dog after it has been outside during the warmer months, as that is when fleas are most active.
