How to Compare Frontline Plus to K9 Advantix

Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix both claim to provide dogs adequate protection against common pests. Though both brands sell topical products, pet owners need to be aware of the differences to effectively compare the two.
  1. Different Pests

    • Frontline Plus protects pets against fleas and ticks. K9 Advantix also offers protection against fleas and ticks, as well as mosquitoes, biting flies and chewing lice.

    Different Types of Protection

    • Frontline Plus kills fleas within 12 hours of contact with the treated pet's coat and ticks within 48 hours of contact. K9 Advantix kills and repels ticks, fleas and mosquitoes before they bite. It also repels biting flies and kills chewing lice within a week of contact.

    Cats and Dogs

    • K9 Advantix contains chemicals harmful to cats and should not be used on cats. Frontline Plus uses different chemicals, however, and proves to be safe for both cats and dogs eight weeks old or older.

    Overall Safety

    • Both products generally prove safe, but K9 Advantix contains stronger, slightly more hazardous chemicals than Frontline Plus. More side effects have been reported for Advantix, and contact needs to be restricted several days after treatment with Advantix, especially with kids and cats.
