Instructions
Prepare to insert your pet's medication into a treat by laying out one or two treats on a table with the proper dose of medication. Depending on the type of treat, it may be necessary to cut it in half. The treat should be of a chewy variety, so implantation of the medication is easier. It should also be a fragrant treat, so your pet does not smell the medication and refuse to eat it.
Place the medication inside the treat pieces and push them back together. Using a chewy treat is important, so the two pieces of the treat stick back together.
Hold your pet's jaws open by pushing gently at the corners of the mouth. This will force the jaw open and make inserting the treat easy. Close your pet's mouth around the treat and allow the pet to taste it for a minute before letting go to allow chewing. This is to ensure that they do not spit the treat out.
Praise your pet for being such a great little medicine take. Give it lots of affection and giving medication to your pet gradually will become easier for both of you.
How to Administer Pet Medications in Treats
Giving your pet a medication can be a difficult and even traumatic experience for your pet. Some medications taste bad or have a texture that is unappealing to your pet. Disguising your pets medication is one way of giving your pet its medication while lessening discomfort. Some pets are more finicky than others and will be able to smell the medicine in food. One option is to give the medicine in a tasty, fragrant treat instead.
