Instructions
Increase your Chihuahua's intake of essential fatty acids. Dry, flaky skin combined with coarse, dull or greasy fur can be signs of a deficiency. Their bodies do not produce these fatty acids on their own, requiring them to be included in their diet. There are also a number of supplements including DermCaps, OmegaDerm, EFA-Z and 3V Capsules.
Use a conditioner when bathing your Chihuahua and make sure to bathe it at least once or twice a week. This is useful in curing dry skin that is a result of low humidity, which is common during the winter.
Change your Chihuahua's diet. While diet in and of itself is not normally a cause of dry skin, food allergies can be. To avoid this, purchase your food from a pet specialty store or a breeder as opposed to a supermarket.
Switch to an allerg- free detergent on your sheets or any other fabrics your dog rests on. You will recognize the detergent as a problem if the dryness and redness is relegated to the dog's belly.
Take your dog to the veternerian to obtain antibiotics if all else fails. The dryness may be a symptom of a bacterial infection, in which case antibiotics will be your only solution.
How Do I Heal a Chihuahua with Dry Skin?
A Chihuahua with dry, irritated skin can be even more temperamental than usual. Besides that, you do not want to see your pet in any discomfort. The causes of the dry skin can be many and varied, but you will likely not know the root until you try different solutions. Fortunately, they are not difficult to attempt, nor will they make the situation any worse.
