How to Use Tenten Ear Cleaning

Cleaning your dog's ears can be tedious, but a healthy pet is a happy pet. Tenten Ear Cleaner is no longer available, but there are many other kinds of ear cleaner you are able to use; ask your veterinarian for guidance. There are many home remedies as well if you are looking for a fast and effective daily cleaner, not for a dog who already has an ear infection. A popular home remedy is 2 tbsp. of water and 1 tbsp. of white vinegar. Cleaning a dog's ears should become a normal part of their grooming schedule, especially in breeds such as golden retrievers, Labrador retrievers or cocker spaniels, all of which are highly prone to ear infections.

Instructions

    • 1

Squirt a small amount of ear cleaner into the ear canal. Do not push the tip of the bottle too far in; if the dog moves, it may get poked and cause damage to the ear canal.

    • 2

Massage the ear cleaner into the ear by holding the ear against the dog's head and rubbing up and down. This will cause the ear cleaner to work its way into the ear canal. Once you have finished, let the dog shake its head to loosen any wax or buildup.

    • 3

Wipe the ear out with a dry cotton ball to remove any loose wax or buildup. It may take a few wipes depending on how dirty the dog's ears are.

    • 4

Pour the ear cleaner onto a cotton ball until it is moist. Lift the dog's ear and hold it up with one hand; with the other hand, wipe carefully inside the ear. Do not push the cotton ball down deep into the ear canal. If it is well moistened you should be able to wipe around easily.

    • 5

Squirt a small amount of ear cleaner into the ear again and let the dog shake again. Use a dry cotton ball to dry the inner ear as much as possible. Ear infections can be caused by moisture that is trapped inside the ear, so you want to make sure you dry it as much as possible.
