How to Find the Answers to Veterinary Questions Online

For pet owners, there are two kinds of animals in this world: theirs, and the rest. If your pet is seriously sick or injured, there's no question what you should do: take it to the vet immediately. But an additional resource, a cyber-library of veterinary information written in easy-to-understand layman's language is literally at your fingertips online. Many websites can help you find answers to general questions or specific concerns regarding health, diet and training; the causes, signs and symptoms of illness; and more.

      Type the name of your animal's breed into the search line, and add what you want to know, such as "common health problems" or "temperament."

      Observe your pet's symptoms and get an idea of what might be wrong by typing the following in a search engine: "veterinary," the species of your animal, the symptoms you have noticed ("lethargy," "loss of appetite," "diarrhea," "constipation," "vomiting," "dehydration") and "possible reasons."

      Search "symptoms" of "veterinary" "emergencies" to find out what to do until you can get your pet to the vet if you suspect it is suffering from a life-threatening condition, the veterinary clinic is closed for the day, and there's no after-hours emergency line.

      Find out the prevalence of rabies in your area by typing "rabies," "statistics," and your state, municipality or county into a search line.
