Instructions
Switch your dog's diet. If a change to new dog food has caused a sudden onset of bad breath, try switching to a different brand of dog food. Hard dog foods are better for your dog's overall dental care and breath.
Give your dog a hard nylon bone to chew. The nylon bone absorbs some of the old bacteria left in your pet's mouth.
Mix plain, unflavored yogurt, raw carrots and raw turkey. Yogurt contains a strain of bacteria known as lactobacillus acidophilus that starves off other bacteria and is healthy for dogs. These three ingredients help fight bad breath in dogs. Do not feed your pet flavored yogurt as flavors contain too much added sugar and could potentially cause your dog to get sick. Avoid giving your dog table food, leftovers and canned food. These foods are known to cause bad breath in dogs.
Brush your dog's teeth daily. Many pet stores carry pet dental kits that contain a toothbrush made specifically to fit the contours of canine teeth as well as a toothpaste formulated just for dogs. Place a half inch strip of the toothpaste on the toothbrush and begin brushing your pet's teeth, starting from the back and working your way to the front of the mouth. Rinse the toothbrush off with water and brush the teeth once more to remove any excess toothpaste. This will help remove old food and bacteria from your pet's mouth.
