If your dog has ingested something harmful you may consider inducing vomiting. However, this should only be done after being instructed by a licensed veterinarian. It is important to contact your vet before following these steps, as you could further harm your dog.
Things You'll Need
- 3% hydrogen peroxide
- 2 tsp./10 millileter medicine spoon (found in most pharmacy sections of stores)
- Eye dropper (optional)
Instructions
Feed your dog a small snack before inducing vomiting to make it easier for the dog, but do not exceed more than a few crackers, a slice of bread or a tablespoon of dog food.
Fill the medicine spoon with 3 milliliters of hydrogen peroxide for every 20 pounds of your dog's weight. Tip the spoon into the dog's mouth, ensuring that all the peroxide is swallowed. You may want to use an eye dropper to squirt the peroxide into the back of the dog's mouth, as it will be easier to gauge if the peroxide it completely swallowed.
Wait 10 minutes. Repeat the process if vomiting hasn't begun. If the dog still hasn't vomited by the second try, call your vet immediately.
