How to Build a Nebulizer for Sick Cats & Dogs

Nebulizers are an effective way to deliver medication to your pets and other animals, especially those with respiratory problems, as they aid in quickly delivering medication right into the animal's lungs. Nebulizers can, however, be quite expensive to purchase. With just a few supplies, making your own as an alternative is relatively easy and inexpensive.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic storage bin with a lid
  • Drill
  • Spade drill bit
  • Compressor
  • Plastic tubing
  • Medical T-valve cup
  • Duct tape

Instructions

    • 1

Hold one side of the T-valve to the side of the plastic bin and trace around the opening. Drill through the plastic using the spade bit at this mark, creating a 1-inch hole.

    • 2

Cut a 3-inch piece of duct tape and tape over the hole. Cut a criss-cross pattern in the tape that directly covers the hole with a sharp knife. Tuck cut ends of tape back into the hole toward the inside of the box, pressing firmly to create a tight fit for the T-valve.

    • 3

Insert the T-valve into the hole, pushing it in as far as it will go until it fits snugly.

    • 4

Insert the plastic tubing into the bottom of the T-valve and snap into place. Attach the other end of the plastic tubing to a compressor and check that everything is secured.
