Chin Acne in Dogs

Dogs and people can develop many of the same skin conditions. They include rashes caused by allergic reactions and pimples because of oily skin. Chin acne is common in dogs and you can treat it at home.

  1. Chin Acne

    • Just like humans, dogs can develop acne. Pimples often develop on a dog's chin and around its mouth, according to "The Complete Healthy Dog Handbook."

    Symptoms

    • Chin acne in dogs is characterized by pimples that are concentrated on the front and underside of a dog's chin.

    Causes

    • A dog's chin acne can be caused by hormones or oily skin. It can also be triggered by mites or a fungal infection.

    Treatment

    • You can treat regular chin acne in dogs with topical applications of benzoyl peroxide. If it is caused by mites, then clearing up the infection will stop the acne.

    Considerations

    • Benzoyl peroxide can irritate a dog's lips, so you should apply it carefully only to the part of a dog's chin that is affected by acne.
