Ear mites are a member of the Arachnida class, along with dust and mold mites and ticks. They are tiny invertebrate parasites that usually go about their daily business without detection and live in water and soil. Sometimes, however, they make their home on dogs, feeding on the outer layer of a dog’s skin in the ear canal. This causes inflammation and irritation and can lead to bacterial infections. For your dog’s comfort and overall health, a cure is necessary--there are home remedies that can be used.

White Vinegar
-
White vinegar is a good remedy for ear mites, according to the Dog Health Tips and Dog Supply website. It is important to cleanse your dog’s ears before beginning the vinegar treatment. Remove any ear wax, so that the solution will be able to settle in the lower portions of the ear. Make a solution by mixing one part vinegar and two parts water. Dispense it into the dog’s ear canal with an eyedropper or syringe, while gently massaging the ear. Dab the inner ear with a cotton swab. Continue this treatment daily, until your dog shows no signs of infestation.
Yellow Dock Root Extract
-
Yellow dock root extract is a viable means of treatment for ear wax. It should be done every three days for a six-week time period. Make the concoction by mixing 9 droplets of the extract and 1 tbsp. of water, says It's a Healthy New Age. Wash the dog’s ears, head and tail tip--this is important, because dogs tend to wrap their tails close to their heads, reinfecting the ears with mites that escaped the treatment. Finish up with a final rinse using the yellow dock solution.
Olive or Almond Oil
-
Olive or almond oil can be used in the dog’s ear canal by squirting in three to six droplets daily. Do this routine for up to four weeks to ensure the necessary goal of dispelling the mites. This type of solution works towards suffocating the mites, says Dog Health Tips and Dog Supply.
