How to Apply Advantage Flea Medication

Advantage will kill any fleas that are on your pet, and will protect your pet from becoming infested with fleas in the future. You can apply the Advantage to your cat or dog once each month in a matter of minutes. According to Pet Parents, the Advantage will begin working within 12 hours.

      Get a prescription for Advantage flea medication from your vet. The vet will prescribe Advantage for dogs under 10 lbs., Advantage for dogs between 11 and 20 lbs., Advantage for dogs between 21 and 55 lbs., or Advantage for dogs over 55 lbs.

      Take the cap off of the applicator and flip it upside down. Screw it over the tip of the applicator to pierce a hole in the tip.

      Hold onto your dog by placing it on your lap, or holding it still in front of you. Part its fur in between the shoulder blades.

      Squeeze the Advantage out of the applicator and onto the dog's skin.

      Note: Dogs over 21 lbs. need to have the Advantage distributed in four to five spots down the spine.

      Get a prescription for Advantage flea medication from your vet. The vet will prescribe either Advantage for cats under 9 lbs. or Advantage for cats over 9 lbs.

      Take the cap off of the applicator and flip it upside down. Screw it over the tip of the applicator to pierce a hole in the tip.

      Set your cat on your lap and part its fur in between the shoulder blades.
