-
Incontinence
-
If your dog suddenly begins urinating inside. especially when no such problem used to exist, it may have a UTI. Wet fur around your dog's rear end is symptomatic of dribbling, and indicates that your dog may not be able to hold it all in.
Frequency
-
Urinating very small amounts frequently is a classic symptom of a UTI. Try to take note of how much your dog urinates. A decline in the overall amount of urine produced can lead to cessation, which can cause other severe health problems, including dehydration.
Foul Urine
-
A foul smell (more so than usual) or blood in the urine is indicative of an infection. The presence of blood may also point to other severe health problems, so get help for your dog immediately if this is the case. The smell and blood can be caused by bacteria being passed from the bladder, through the urinary tract.
Fever
-
Infections are nearly always accompanied by a fever. If your dog has a fever and any of the other symptoms, a UTI is the likely cause. Fevers are typically accompanied by lethargy as well. Try to monitor your dog's heat and water levels, ensuring that your pet is drinking plenty and that you are taking its temperature regularly while you think a UTI may be present.
Tender Bladder
-
Gently feel along the lower part of your dog's abdomen, taking note of any bloating or swelling in the area directly above (toward your dog's head) of the genitals. Your check shouldn't cause your dog any discomfort. If it does, this may indicate tenderness or pain. The bacteria responsible for a UTI will cause the bladder to become inflamed and tender.
