Ear mites are minute parasites that live in the ear canals of dogs, feeding off any debris from the ears’ secretions. These mites cause extreme itching in dogs; this itching leads to scratching, which can then cause further damage to the dog’s ears as open sores and bacterial infection can occur. You can cure ear mites in dogs by using home remedies you can find at health food stores, as opposed to prescription medication.

Yellow Dock
-
Yellow dock is an herb that is effective in treating ear mites in dogs. Boil water and add 12 tsp. of the herb to it. Allow the mixture to cool and put it in a dropper bottle. Add one dropperful of the tea into your dog’s ears twice a day for six weeks. Six weeks is a good timeframe because ear mite eggs are hard and therefore resistant to any treatment. However, the eggs will hatch and if you are still using this remedy, the mites will eventually die and no more eggs will be present.
Garlic and Mullein Combination
-
Garlic is an excellent antibiotic, and mullein has antimicrobial and antiviral properties. When used together, this herbal duo can cure ear mites in dogs. Mix equal parts of garlic oil with mullein oil. Use olive oil or vitamin E as a base, adding 10 to 20 drops for every ounce of the mullein/garlic oil mixture you create. Apply to your dog’s ear canal daily. Massage your dog’s ear to ensure the mixture is spread throughout the ear canal.
Echinacea
-
Most ear mite infestations are due to a low immune system. Dogs with an optimal immune system are less likely to have ear mite problems. echinacea balances and strengthens the immune system and it also combats bacteria, viruses and yeasts, which is why it is effective in curing ear mites in dogs. This herb is only effective when administered at the first onset of mite infestation. You can find echinacea in the forms of tinctures, tablets, dried herb and tea at health food stores and even grocery stores.
