Natural Remedies for Dog Ear Infections

Dog ear infections can be painful and cost quite a bit of money to treat. Over-the-counter products and prescriptions for ear infections in dogs can get expensive. However, a few home remedies should be tried before you spend too much money on commercial products. Some of these home remedies can be done with things you have in your kitchen pantry. Symptoms that your dog has an ear infection include shaking his head and scratching his ears.

  1. Green Tea

    • Boil two bags of green tea in the recommended amount of water, per the tea box, for at least 15 minutes. Once the tea cools down, flush the dog’s ear with the green tea and do this at least twice a day. The green tea will help soothe the painful ear infections and clear it up.

    Vitamin E Oil

    • Dogs with ear infections that are more inner and middle infections can get relief with vitamin E oil. Take a vitamin E capsule and poke a hole in it. Place two to three drops in the dog’s ear canal. Massage it into the affected ear once daily. You can also use cod liver oil. Both can be purchased at most health food stores.

    Garlic

    • For dogs with a mild ear infection, take two small cloves of garlic and mince them. Add it to a small bowl of olive oil and allow it sit for at least two weeks. Drain the garlic out of the oil and use the drops for the affected ear. Place two to three drops of the mixture --slightly warmed--into the dog’s ear and massage it in. Apply the drops daily, until the ear infection clears up.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • Apple cider vinegar can be given to the dog orally or by placing it in the affected ear for treatment. Mix 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar to one cup of water and allow your dog to drink it. Do this twice a week to help the ear infection from worsening. You can also use the same mix to flush out and clean the dog’s ear.

    Vinegar

    • Regular vinegar should be used to clean out your dog’s ear regularly. Vinegar will remove from the ear canal dirt and bugs that can cause ear infections. Use one part regular vinegar to one part water and flush the dog’s ear. This remedy can be done daily.
