Dogs generally become infected with hookworms by eating or coming into contact with the infected feces of another animal, including simply stepping into a pile of feces that contains the worms. Once inside the body, the hookworms will quickly multiply and cause symptoms in your dog such as extreme tiredness, weight loss and bloody diarrhea. The dog may also scratch itself excessively if the hookworms traveled into the dog through its skin. Hookworms can be eliminated from your dog naturally at home with diatomaceous earth, which is a sediment produced from fossilized algae.
Instructions
Mix the proper amount of food-grade diatomaceous earth in with the dog's food once a day. Give larger breeds of dogs (those weighing over 90 pounds) one tablespoon daily. Give smaller breeds one-half tablespoon daily.
Continue to give the dog the diatomaceous earth in his food bowl once a day for 30 days. Your dog will be more likely to consume the diatomaceous earth if it is given in the morning feeding because the dog will be more hungry.
Stir the food-grade diatomaceous earth into the dog's food every three days for one more month. The amount of diatomaceous earth given to the dog by weight does not change.
