Frontline claims to stop the flea life cycle while effectively controlling tick and chewing lice infestations in both dogs and cats. Frontline not only kills adult fleas and flea eggs, but flea larvae for as long as three months. However, if reinfestation is a concern, once per month application may be required. In some cases, multiple monthly treatments may be necessary.

Active Ingredients
-
The active ingredients in Frontline are Fipronil and S-Methoprene. Fipronil is a broad use insecticide that disrupts the normal nervous system functioning of pests, and ultimately causes paralysis and death of these insects. S-Methoprene is an insect growth regulator that works in conjunction with Fipronil to stop the flea life cycle.
Efficacy
-
Frontline is most widely used for controlling fleas, ticks and lice, but also claims to be effective in the control of sarcoptic mange infestations. The active ingredients in Frontline are safe for breeding, pregnant and lactating dogs.
Fast Acting
-
Just 24 hours following an application of Fipronil, the medication will be spread through the coat via the pet's body oils, and fleas or ticks should be exterminated within 24 to 48 hours. Since bothersome fleas and ticks are actually killed before they bite, the risk of flea allergy dermatitis and tick-borne disease transmission are significantly reduced.
Long Lasting
-
Frontline's active ingredients collect in the oils of the pet's skin and hair follicles. The medication continues to be released for up to one month from hair follicles onto the skin and coat. Since the medication is present on the hair, shedding will further decrease larval stages of fleas.
Effects
-
The area of Frontline application may appear wet or oily for up to 24 hours, but normal activity will not interfere with the medication. Frontline is non-soluble in water, which makes it effective even after bathing or swimming, Exposure to sunlight does not decrease the effectiveness of Frontline.
