Skin tags are small growths of tissue that protrude out from the skin. They are very common among people, however, they are just as common among dogs such as the yellow lab. Skin tags are rarely bothersome to a dog but they can be rather unsightly, warranting removal. With the right tools you can remove skin tags from a yellow lab right at home. The biggest challenge will likely be getting your lab to sit still long enough to remove the skin tags.
Things You'll Need
- Tweezers
- Manicure scissors
- Small glass
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton pads
- Antibiotic ointment
- Adhesive bandage
Instructions
Soak a pair of tweezers and a manicure scissors in a small glass that is one quarter full of rubbing alcohol for 15 minutes. Insert the tweezers and manicure scissors with the pointed ends down.
Clean the skin on and around the skin tag by moistening a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol and wiping it over the area. Take the tweezers out of the glass of alcohol. Wipe the tweezers dry with a clean cotton pad.
Remove the manicure scissors from the alcohol and wipe them dry with a clean cotton pad. Use the tweezers to pull the skin tag up and as far away from the skin as possible. Cut the skin tag off with the manicuring scissors as close to the skin as possible.
Use a clean cotton pad and press on the area where the skin tag was removed to stop any bleeding. Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a clean cotton pad and wipe the area clean. Apply an antibiotic ointment over the area and if possible cover it with an adhesive bandage. If your dog won't let you do this, try to keep the area clean until a scab is formed.
