Goggles or Glasses for Dogs

It is important that you know how to take good care of your dog. The basic essentials are things for your dog's daily needs, like a food bowl, leash, collar and a poop scooper. Some optional accessories aid your dog, while others serve a decorative purpose. Bandannas, jerseys, shoes, goggles and sunglasses are all optional accessories, some of which can provide warmth or protection.

Dog eyewear is great for dogs with large eyes and short noses. Their eyes are more at risk than dogs with long noses because there is less protection in front.

  1. Dog Goggles

    • Dog goggles are a great method for owners to defend the eyes of their dogs from sunlight, wind, dirt, sand and other debris. Dog goggles have special straps designed to fit the dog's head. The straps should be adjusted to ensure they are not tight enough to constrict blood flow but not loose enough to fall off or allow strong wind or debris to enter. The UV protective coating and snug grip ensures protection from sunlight. The goggles are usually shatterproof and won't fog up.

    Glasses for Dogs

    • Dog sunglasses are fashion items for dogs. Aside from the aesthetic value, dog glasses offer protection against harmful UV rays. These look like regular human glasses or sunglasses, but they're designed to fit your dog's head. The lenses and frames of dog glasses come in many different colors and styles that can be used to match the dog's personality. However, like human glasses, there is a tendency for them to occasionally fall off.

Some dogs have decreased vision after cataract surgery. However, corrective eyeglasses are rarely necessary. If your dog has difficulty seeing objects, ask a veterinary ophthalmologist if corrective lenses can help him.

    Training the Dog

    • Like most accessories, your dog will need training to feel comfortable wearing goggles or glasses. Give your dog some time to familiarize himself with eyewear. Show him the goggles to get his attention. Once he recognizes the eyewear, slowly bring it closer to his face. If he moves away, try again until you successfully put it on his head. Gradually lengthen the time the dog wears the goggles until he is comfortable wearing them at any time.
