Frontline (Plus and Top Spot) provides fast-acting, long lasting, waterproof treatment to control fleas, ticks and chewing lice in dogs and cats. Frontline may also be used to control sarcoptic mange and mite infestations. The active ingredients in Frontline flea control are Fipronil (an insecticide) and S-methoprene (an insect growth regulator). Fipronil collects in the oils of the skin and hair follicles, and continues to be released from hair follicles onto the skin and coat. These two ingredients work together to effectively stop and prevent infestations, but as with any medication, may also present some negative effects if not used properly.

Side Effects In Pets
-
Apply the product only on the animal's skin. Frontline may cause temporary redness or itching of the application site. It should not be taken internally; avoid getting product in the pet's eyes or mouth. If the pet licks the product before it dries, it may start drooling. Some animals may be allergic to Frontline. Do not use on animals that exhibit hypersensitivity to the product. If irritation of the application site persists, bathe the animal and call your veterinarian.
Flea Control Warnings
-
Do not use Frontline on ill or aged animals, or on kittens or puppies less than 8 weeks of age. Do not use with other pesticide products. For best results, treat pets with Frontline year-round, or begin treatments before warm weather seasons. If all pets (and the environment) are not treated for fleas, infestation will continue.
Hazards to Humans
-
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Frontline causes eye irritation. If contact occurs, flush your eyes with water and consult with a physician if irritation persists.
After handling Frontline, wash exposed areas thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical attention if skin irritation persists. Frontline is harmful if swallowed. If you or your child ingest Frontline, contact a poison control center or doctor immediately for treatment advice.
Storage and Disposal Warnings
-
Store unused Frontline in its original container, out of reach of children and animals and at a distance from food and water. Call your local solid waste agency for instructions on disposal of partially full containers. Do not put Frontline down indoor or outdoor drains. Do not reuse the empty container. Frontline is combustible; do not use or store near heat or open flame.
