How to Get Vet Care for Newborn Puppies for Free

Perhaps you found a pregnant stray dog and now her puppies are running around your home, or maybe your own dog inadvertently got pregnant and now you have her puppies to care for. Either way, getting veterinary care for an entire litter of puppies can quickly break the bank. However, with a little diligence, you can find free veterinary care for the puppies.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a no-kill animal shelter or rescue group in your area. Call to ask if they have a pet clinic on site and whether their vets can examine your puppies. You may find that some groups will require that you relinquish the puppies to them for them to provide the puppies with veterinary care. However, unless you hoped to keep or sell the puppies, this is a viable option.

Call your regular veterinarian. Explain that you can't afford to pay for veterinary care for all the puppies, and ask if he's willing to waive the costs. Many vets will work with existing clients who get into situations where they can't afford veterinary costs. He may either waive office visit fees and give you medication samples instead of selling you required drugs, or he may give you discounts and allow you to pay the costs incurred in installments.

Ask your local animal shelter, local humane society or ASPCA whether they offer free or reduced-price veterinary services. If not, ask if they know of anyone that does. Some communities have shuttles that travel to different locations on weekends, performing wellness checks, administering puppy vaccines, and doing spay and neuter surgeries at little to no cost.
